Small Business Health Care Cost Relief Bill Based on Murray Initiative Signed Into Law

The compromise legislation based on Murray's bill to reduce small business health insurance costs and promote job retention and job creation was approved by the Senate unanimously and signed into law. The bill reduces premium fluctuations in the market and requires insurers to offer affordable health plans.

Final Economic Development Bill Becomes Law, Includes Tax Holiday

Economic development legislation, which includes a sales tax holiday and promotes a business-friendly environment that will help small businesses stay open, expand and create jobs, was signed into law August 5. The Senate-led initiative introduced by Murray in April will overhaul the state’s network of business development agencies, establishing a streamlined, cohesive model with built-in oversight and transparency to reduce redundancy and waste.

Bill to Protect Against Foreclosures and Mortgage Fraud Approved

A bill to protect both homeowners and tenants from mortgage fraud and arbitrary evictions was recently signed into law. “This legislation will help us get control of home foreclosures, which has been a major challenge during our economic recovery,” Senate President Murray said. “It protects residents and helps people stay in their homes at a time when many are already struggling.”

Murray Announces Passage of ATV Safety Bill

Senate President Therese Murray announced that on Thursday the Massachusetts Legislature, responding to alarming rates of injury and death, passed final legislation improving safety regulations for operators of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in Massachusetts. The bill requires ATVs, off-road motorcycles and snowmobiles to be registered and all operators to wear helmets. It also establishes a minimum age of use for ATVs.
