On the shores of the Jones River, the Town of Kingston is located about 35 miles south of Boston. After being part of Plymouth during the 17th century, the Town of Kingston was incorporated as its own entity in 1726, and has passed through several industrial eras, adapting as needs for the area changed. Today, the Town of Kingston is primarily a residential area with easy access to Boston by way of the MBTA Commuter Rail. Local industries consist mainly of fishing and cranberry growing.
Kingston, like much of the area, has retained a heightened sense of history, with residents passionately working to preserve their unique heritage. The Jones River Village Historical Society, for example, ensures that the Major John Bradford House, built in 1714, is maintained so that future generations may enjoy it. Kingston residents have also been strong advocates for maintaining the integrity of their landscape, working to conserve public lands for public use.
