One of the most well-known communities in the Commonwealth is the Town of Plymouth. Legendary for being America’s Hometown and the landing place of the Mayflower in 1620 and home to the Wampanoag Tribe, Plymouth Rock remains as a major tourist attraction for the region, along with the historical Plimoth Plantation experience. Plymouth is also home to the oldest continually operating museum in the United States, Pilgrim Hall Museum, managed by the Pilgrim Hall Society. Americans can thank Plymouth for the Thanksgiving tradition, having hosted the first Thanksgiving feast in the fall of 1621.
It is now the economic and cultural center of the South Shore region. In addition to its tourist industry, Plymouth boasts a strong community of cranberry growers and an expanding consumer industry brought on by recent retail development.
