Sandwich

Sandwich

The oldest town on Cape Cod, Sandwich was settled in 1637 by a group from Plymouth Colony and was officially incorporated two years later.  Sandwich is largely a residential community, but boasts a resilient historical memory building upon the area’s natural beauty.  Home to the famous conservationist Thornton Burgess, Sandwich residents have long worked to preserve the town’s well-known natural resources.  The Heritage Museum and Gardens and the Thornton Burgess Museum both beautifully showcase Sandwich’s proud environmental heritage.

Sandwich is home to a thriving tourist industry because of its wonderful rural landscape and visitor-friendly beaches.  Compared to other towns on Cape Cod, Sandwich prides itself on retaining its quaint, seaside nature despite increased development in the general region.  Visitors can experience the best of both worlds in Sandwich: a quiet, peaceful area with beautiful surroundings while still having access to world-class restaurants, beaches and recreational opportunities.
