Murray Announces Grants to District Fire Departments for Student Awareness Program

Several fire departments within the Plymouth and Barnstable District received Student Awareness of Fire Education (S.A.F.E.) grants, Senate President Therese Murray (D-Plymouth) announced today.  The grants awarded to five of the eight communities in the district totaled $22,889.

“Our fire departments do a tremendous job educating children about the hazards of fire and the proper techniques to stay out of harm's way,” said Murray. “The S.A.F.E.  program continues to be an important part of this process, helping our communities to be safer and more knowledgeable.”

The following are the specific S.A.F.E. grant totals by community:

Barnstable $1,529
Bourne  $5,265
Kingston $4,665
Plymouth $7,665
Plympton $3,765

In addition to supporting these grants to promote awareness, each fall, Senator Murray works with the state fire marshal, local fire departments and town officials, to raise awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide.  Through these awareness efforts, thousands of free carbon monoxide alarms have been given out to residents in the Plymouth and Barnstable District.
